The Skye Woman Project is a grassroots, family driven effort resulting from our own personal, lived experience in working to navigate and advocate for my daughter, Skye Leann (Griggs) Jim, whom we lost on January 9th, 2021.
The launch date of this site is January 9th, 2022.
In this first year, as Skye's mother, I have had many sleepless nights investigating my daughter's death in addition to researching information and resources.
It is our desire to turn pain to power by using our experiences to make the road smoother by providing a sense of support and guidance for other grieving families.
While we have not reached the point of court hearings and thus are unable to offer guidance specific to the judicial process, this site will change to include what we learn as we move forward.
The loss of a loved one to homicide is heart-wrenching. You may see or read things pertaining to your loved one's death that may traumatize you and when all is said and done, you may even experience Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome but I want to remind you that you may find that you also have Post Traumatic STRENGTH.

WHY THE NAME SKYE WOMAN?
There are some of our Nations who share a belief in a creation story in which in the beginning, there was a sacred being who came from above. She was known as Sky Woman and with her, she brought seeds.
She shared those seeds and spread them across the land. Those seeds grew and came to provide us with medicines, food and even shelter. They are the Givers.
Following the death of our Skye, in the Spring time, I encouraged my family to plant various food giving plants, trees and others.
We planted as a first step toward our healing, surrounding our home as an antithetic act of defiance against the Takers - the Takers being those who take that which they have no right to take.
While my daughter's death took a little something from each of us, it also brought us life by bringing about the act of us surrounding ourselves with these supporters of life that came from seeds that originated from Sky Woman.
The decision to name our effort The Skye Woman Project isn't intended to disrespect cultural beliefs but rather to remind the grieving of the goodness of the Givers while also honoring the memory of our Skye.
